Briery Gap nominated for County Mayors Community Awards
Briery Gap Community Group Events have been shortlisted for an award at the County Cork Mayor's Community & Voluntary Awards on June 3rd 2015. The groups collectively include Youth Theatre, Christmas Pantomime and the annual Musical.
Briery Gap's Youth Theatre was established to develop the creative talents of teenagers around Macroom and surrounding areas and to promote their artistic talents through theatre performance and production. The Youth Theatre meet Monday's at 7.00pm in Briery Gap. All youths aged 12 – 21 are welcome. The group includes many talented actors and musicians, but members are also involved in set designn, costumes, lighting, dancing and all aspects of the performing arts.
Briery Gap celebrates 16 years of Pantomime this year, with a dedicated cast of up to 150 performers, the annual production has gained a reputation as one of the best Panto's in the country. This year's show promises to be even bigger and better than before – oh no it isn't – oh yes it is!
Briery Gap Player's most recent production "Oliver!" was it's sixth Spring Musical and the most successful to date, having already presented classics such as Oklahoma, Calamity Jane, Showboat, South Pacific and The Sound of Music. As a testament to the reputation and success of the productions, the group have been invited to perform at Cork's iconic Everyman Theatre for the past two years running. The wonderfully talented RTE Director, Kevin Hough has been with the group since the beginning, working alongside Briery Gap Manager & Musical Director Ann Dunne, Ann Egan, Costume Designer Rita O'Brien, Set Designer Denis Coleman, not to mention an enthusiastic cast and crew of talented Macrompian's who work hard to put the "razzle dazzle" on for appreciative audiences year after year.
