St Mary's Secondary School

The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy who came to Macroom in 1865. Beginning with a school of nine pupils, the Sisters have worked tirelessly over the last 140 years to provide an education to several generations of young people. The people of the town and surrounding areas are very grateful to the Sisters of Mercy for the immense contribution they have made to the Macroom area. Today, the school has a population of three hundred and forty students and is tremendously proud of its academic results and other achievements in both co- curricular and extra curricular activities.

St. Mary’s Secondary School is an all girls’ voluntary Catholic school under the trusteeship of CEIST – Catholic Education, an Irish Schools Trust. The core values of CEIST determine the ethos, spirit and practices in our school. They include:

McEgan College

Bishop McEgan College Macroom stands at the heart of the town and at the heart of the community. It offers a wide range of educational opportunities to the people of Macroom and its environs.

Bishop McEgan College offers the following:

St Joseph's Primary School

Nearly 300 pupils attend our school: boys and girls up to second class, and all girls from second to Sixth Class. Pupils from twelve different countries attend our school. It is situated in the in Macroom town near the St. Colman’s Parish Church.

Education at St.Joseph's Primary School, Macroom is concerned with the all-round total development of your child, which includes social, academic, moral, spiritual, physical, aesthetic and emotional elements.

We seek to integrate Christian principles of faith and action with good academic programmes to satisfy the challenging demands of the modern world and to provide for individual differences and needs whilst encouraging personal responsibility and cultivating self-directed, life long learning.’

De la Salle College

De la Salle College Macroom is a voluntary secondary boys' school that caters for approximately 300 students. It is situated at the Western end of the town, with the entrance off New Street. Although there are no longer any members of the De la Salle order present, the ethos that they established in 1934 still informs all aspects of school life.

The college's mission statement encapsulates this:

"Our Community aims to assist our pupils to develop their full potential in a Christian environment. In our school this vision will be achieved by mutual respect and co-operation amongst all partners in an open, safe and caring environment"

St Colman's Boys National School

St. Colmans Boys' National School located in Sleaveen East , is proud to carry on the long tradition of Primary School education in the town of Macroom.The School is a Senior Boys' school catering for 2nd to 6th Class.

The school also has Classes for Children with Autism and a Moderate Learning Disability which are co-educational. The present school building constructed in 2009 followed on from the town's previous national schools which had been located in Masseytown, Castle Street, School Lane, Chapel Hill and Cork St. Up to 1991 the school was run for many years by the De La Salle Brothers. At St. Colman's we are proud of our roots and seek to blend this with the many advances of modern day education. We strive to provide the highest quality all round education for the boys of Macroom and its hinterland in this the 21st Century.
